The So Danca BAE23 Essential Canvas Ballet Shoes are a simple, traditional split sole ballet shoe for dancers who want flexibility without the price of a premium stretch canvas model. Made from classic non-stretch canvas, BAE23 has an uncomplicated, familiar feel and represents excellent value for regular classes, rehearsals and everyday training.

Think of BAE23 as the more flexible sister to the full sole BAE24. Both share the same traditional canvas character and accessible price point, but the split sole construction of BAE23 gives the foot greater freedom through the arch and forefoot, making it particularly useful for dancers progressing beyond a more structured full sole shoe.

So Danca BAE23 Ballet Shoe Personality

Essential • Flexible • Traditional • Affordable

BAE23 isn't trying to behave like a modern second-skin stretch canvas shoe. Its appeal is much simpler: traditional canvas, a flexible split sole and a very accessible price point.

The regular canvas upper feels soft but does not contour around the foot in the same way as stretch canvas, giving BAE23 a more traditional ballet shoe appearance and feel. For dancers who simply need a reliable split sole shoe for regular training, or who don't need the additional technology of a premium model - that simplicity can be exactly the point.

So Danca BAE23 Essential Canvas Ballet Shoes - Design & Performance

The traditional canvas upper provides a lightweight and breathable feel for everyday ballet training. Unlike modern stretch canvas, this fabric does not actively sculpt around every contour of the foot, so correct sizing is particularly important for achieving a neat, comfortable fit.

Underneath, separate suede forefoot and heel pads create the split sole construction. Removing the continuous sole found on BAE24 allows greater freedom through the middle of the foot, helping dancers articulate more easily through tendu, relevé and pointed positions.

Pre-sewn elastic holds the shoe securely in place, while the traditional adjustable drawstring allows the topline to be fine-tuned around the foot. It is a straightforward construction that will feel familiar to dancers who prefer a classic canvas ballet slipper.

Available in Pink, White and Black, BAE23 works equally well as an everyday class shoe, dance-school essential or affordable second pair for regular training.

Dance World Expert Tip

Choose BAE23 over BAE24 when flexibility matters more than full-sole structure. The two shoes share the same traditional, affordable canvas character, but BAE23's split sole gives the foot noticeably greater freedom through the arch. For dancers progressing in their training, or adults who simply prefer a lighter, more flexible shoe - BAE23 is often the more natural choice.

So Danca BAE23 Fit Advice

Advanced & Experienced Dancers

For dancers wanting a close ballet fit, begin around your measured foot size to approximately ½ size above. Because this is traditional non-stretch canvas rather than adaptive stretch canvas, the shoe should fit neatly from the beginning without relying on the fabric to reshape significantly around the foot.

Growing Students & Adult Beginners

For most dancers, approximately 1 UK size above measured foot length provides a comfortable everyday ballet fit while keeping the shoe secure through the heel and forefoot.

First Ballet Shoes & Young Dancers

For younger dancers requiring growing room, approximately 2 UK sizes above measured foot length is our usual starting point.

Traditional Canvas Fit Note

BAE23 uses regular canvas rather than stretch canvas. It will soften through wear, but it will not adapt around the foot like models such as the SD16. Avoid deliberately choosing a very tight shoe expecting significant stretch.

The adjustable cotton drawstring can help refine the topline around the foot, but it should be used for fine adjustment rather than compensating for an incorrect shoe size.

Dance World Fit Advice is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Always measure the dancer's foot rather than relying solely on everyday shoe size. Foot shape, width and personal preference all influence the ideal fit.
