The So Danca BAE22 Men's Leather Ballet Shoes combine the durability and adaptable feel of leather with a flexible split sole construction designed specifically for larger men's sizing. Soft leather surrounds the foot, while a stretch insert beneath the arch gives the midfoot greater freedom through pointe, tendu and everyday ballet movement.

Available in Black and White from UK 5-13, BAE22 is particularly useful for male dancers who want the traditional feel and longevity of leather without the restriction of an old-fashioned full sole. The elastics are intentionally supplied partially attached, allowing each dancer to choose their preferred strap position and tension.

So Danca BAE22 Ballet Shoe Personality

Durable • Flexible • Adaptable • Customisable

BAE22 is a useful alternative to the increasingly common stretch canvas men's ballet shoe. Instead of creating an immediate second-skin sensation, its leather upper offers a more substantial traditional feel that gradually becomes softer and more personal through wear.

The stretch insert underneath the arch prevents that leather construction from feeling unnecessarily rigid through the midfoot. Combined with separate suede sole pads, it allows considerably more freedom through articulation while retaining the durability and tactile feel dancers often choose leather for.

And just like BAE11, the elastics aren't factory positioned. They arrive partially attached so the dancer can decide exactly where and how firmly the crossed straps sit across the instep.

Design & Performance

The leather upper gives BAE22 its defining character. More substantial than lightweight stretch canvas, it provides a reassuring feel around the foot while gradually softening and adapting through regular studio wear.

Underneath, separate suede forefoot and heel pads create the split sole. This leaves the centre of the foot free from a continuous sole, allowing easier articulation and a more direct relationship with the floor.

A flexible stretch insert through the arch works with that split construction, helping the shoe move more naturally through the midfoot rather than resisting the shape of a pointed foot.

The crossed elastics are supplied partially attached for custom placement. This is particularly useful on a men's ballet shoe, where instep height, foot volume and personal preference can vary considerably. Instead of adapting to a predetermined strap position, the dancer can establish the placement and tension that feels most secure on their own foot.

With Black and White options and an extended UK 5–13 size range, BAE22 provides a practical leather option for male dancers who need both larger sizing and a flexible professional-style split sole.

Dance World Expert Tip

Don't judge BAE22 exactly like a stretch canvas shoe when you first put it on. The leather naturally feels more substantial initially and becomes softer and more accommodating through wear. Aim for a secure fit without curled or compressed toes rather than deliberately choosing excess room.

And before sewing anything, wear both shoes and move through demi-plié, tendu and pointe. Once you're satisfied with the size, experiment with the position and tension of the crossed elastics, mark where they feel most secure and only then stitch them permanently into place.

So Danca BAE22 Fit Advice

Professional & Advanced Dancers

For a close professional ballet fit, we recommend beginning approximately ½ UK size above your normal UK shoe size. This reflects our current fitting and returns experience with BAE22.

Students & Adult Beginners

Approximately ½- 1UK size above your normal UK shoe size is also our preferred starting point. If you prefer slightly more room through the toes, individual foot shape may influence the final choice.

BAE22 Men's Fit Note

BAE22 is designed specifically within So Danca's men's ballet shoe range and is available from UK 5 through UK 13.

The toes should lie naturally without curling, while the heel and sides should remain connected to the foot throughout movement. Once the overall shoe size is correct, use the unsewn crossed elastics to personalise strap position and tension across your instep.

Always confirm the shoe size before cutting or sewing the elastics.

Dance World Fit Advice is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Foot shape, width, instep height and personal preference all influence the ideal ballet shoe fit.
